Kyiv has 3 airports: 1 in the centre of the capital and 2 on the outskirts: Vasylkiv and Boryspil. The Russian military leadership planned to capture these 3 airports and thus conquer Kyiv and further use these airports for the delivery of troops and equipment. The fact that Russia could not capture the airports in the very first days of a full-scale war showed that the Russian army is unable to capture Kyiv/Ukraine and win the war.
