Rapid Growth of AI Adoption
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming Ukrainian entrepreneurship. According to Mastercard’s annual survey of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, 42% of businesses in Ukraine are already using AI technologies in their operations — twice as many as last year.
The data were presented by Inga Andreeva, CEO of Mastercard Ukraine, at the Kyiv International Economic Forum.
“Forty-two percent said they have already started using artificial intelligence. Last year this figure was 21% lower. The main areas of AI application today are marketing, communications, and targeting. I think this share will only grow in the future,”
— noted Andreeva.
Where AI Brings the Most Value
For Ukrainian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), AI is primarily applied to:
-
Marketing automation and ad targeting;
-
Customer communication and support (chatbots, content personalization);
-
Market analytics and sales forecasting.
These technologies are helping entrepreneurs cut costs, reach audiences more efficiently, and compete in international markets despite the challenging wartime economy.
Cashless Economy and Transparency
The Mastercard study also revealed an impressive 93% of Ukrainian SMEs now accept non-cash payments, underscoring a fundamental shift toward digital financial transparency.
Moreover, 72% of respondents said that more than half of their income comes directly from cashless transactions — a figure that reflects strong integration of digital payment infrastructure into business operations.
“This is a very good indicator. It shows transparency and a rapid movement of funds in the economy,”
— added Andreeva.
Export Potential and Globalization
According to the research, 62% of small and medium-sized businesses either already export their products or plan to enter international markets in the near future.
Mastercard analysts interpret this as evidence of continued globalization and adaptability among Ukrainian entrepreneurs, even amid war and economic pressure.
Outlook
The doubling of AI adoption in just one year highlights how Ukrainian businesses are leveraging innovation to remain competitive.
With high levels of cashless transactions, export orientation, and digital transformation, Ukraine’s SME sector is emerging as one of the most technologically advanced in Eastern Europe — signaling both resilience and readiness for post-war recovery.
