A New Online “Currency” for Schoolchildren: How Ukraine Gamifies Learning

Ukraine is introducing an innovative educational project that combines digital technology, gamification, and financial literacy

Starting October 1, 2025, the Ministry of Digital Transformation will launch a pilot version of “mriyki”, a new virtual currency integrated into the mobile application “Mriya” for schoolchildren.

How “mriyki” Will Work

At the beta test stage, 10–15 thousand children will be able to earn “mriyki” for completing tasks in the “Mriya” app. From January 1, 2026, the program will scale to all schools in Ukraine (public and private) that join the platform.

Children will receive “mriyki” as points for academic achievements and completed challenges:

  • improving grades,

  • participating in quizzes,

  • solving AI-generated tasks across different school subjects.

The earned “mriyki” can then be exchanged for real goods and services through partner companies, including:

  • movie tickets,

  • quests and master classes,

  • training courses.

Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that the project is not just entertainment, but a way to motivate children to learn more and engage actively in education.

“Mriya” as Part of Ukraine’s Digital Ecosystem

By September 1, about 2,000 schools across Ukraine will have already integrated the “Mriya” application into their educational process. The app also offers:

  • gamified learning modules,

  • personalized AI-generated challenges,

  • tools for communication between teachers, students, and parents.

This initiative is part of Ukraine’s broader digital transformation strategy, making education more engaging while preparing children for a digital economy.

Family Support Programs in Parallel

In parallel with this project, the Ukrainian government is rolling out financial support programs for families with young children:

  • ₴5,000 “Student Package” for families with first-graders in 2025, available via the Diya app or Pension Fund service centers, for school essentials (stationery, clothes, shoes).

  • One-time ₴50,000 childbirth payment and prenatal support of ₴7,000 per month, designed to stimulate Ukraine’s birth rate and support parents.

Why This Matters for Investors and Businesses

For partner companies, “Mriya” creates a new digital marketplace where educational achievements translate into real economic activity. Businesses can integrate into the ecosystem as reward providers, gaining access to a young, tech-savvy audience and positioning themselves as supporters of innovation and education.

👉 Conclusion: The launch of “mriyki” signals how Ukraine is transforming education into a gamified, incentive-driven system, aligning digital innovation with social support programs. For both families and investors, it reflects a forward-looking strategy that builds human capital while opening new business opportunities.
