Agricultural Exports Drive Ukraine’s Trade: Over 50% of All Exports

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has highlighted that agricultural products now make up more than 50% of all goods exported from Ukraine

Speaking at a government meeting, Shmyhal emphasized the vital role of the agricultural sector in the nation’s trade dynamics, noting a 4.5% increase in export levels in March compared to the same month last year.

Key Points from the Announcement

  • Agriculture as a Trade Backbone:
"Agricultural exports remain the basis for our trade and account for over 50% of everything that Ukraine sells abroad," Shmyhal stated, underlining the sector's critical importance in Ukraine’s economy.

  • Consistent Growth:
Over the past year, Ukrainian exports have surged by 13%, with March 2025 witnessing a further growth of 4.5% compared to March 2024. In March 2025 alone, Ukraine exported 9.98 million tons of goods worth USD 3.6 billion.

  • Government Support Measures:
Amid global trade uncertainties, the government is committed to bolstering national producers and exporters. The "Made in Ukraine" program, for example, includes UAH 500 million in compensation for the purchase of domestically produced agricultural machinery, covering up to 25% of the cost for farmers. Additionally, more than UAH 6 billion from the state budget is slated for support of the agricultural sector this year.

Strengthening Ukraine’s Economic Resilience

Shmyhal’s remarks come at a time when global trade conditions are particularly turbulent. By reinforcing support for the agricultural sector through significant state investment and innovative programs, Ukraine aims to not only sustain but also accelerate its export growth. These measures are expected to further cement the role of agriculture as the cornerstone of Ukraine’s export economy, helping the nation navigate international market challenges with greater resilience.

As Ukraine continues to build on its robust export performance, the strategic focus on agriculture promises to yield long-term economic benefits and secure a more stable future for the country’s trade landscape.
