Amendment of the Status of Ukraine in the Passport Index Rating

In the updated world ranking of the "Passport index", Ukraine rose up two points

The World passport index was created 17 years ago to monitor the freedom of movement of people from different countries around the world. As stated in the latest data, on average, the world’s inhabitants can visit 107 countries on a visa-free basis. Back then, the classifier was created, the country's inhabitants could, on average, travel up to 57 countries in a year without prior permission to access the country.

In July 2021, Ukraine was ranked 37th in the classification. In the updated list of countries, it ranked 35th. This movement demonstrates positive developments in foreign policy, as well as сcorrespondence to the European Union standards.

The updated position in the rating will allow Ukrainians to travel without a visa to 141 countries worldwide. Today residents of Ukraine may stay in the territory of:

  • Austria;
  • Belgium;
  • Germany;
  • Greece;
  • Georgia
  • Spain;
  • Israel;
  • UAE;
  • Turkey etc.

It is worth mentioning that today the borders of 160 countries have been opened for Ukraine. That means that the number of states requiring official permission has been reduced to 19. Among the countries that still have to receive the relevant documents are Great Britain, Cuba, Canada, and others.

The country was able to change its ranking position in the World passport index, thanks to signing the last political agreement. Since 22 July 2021, a treaty on visa-free access to the French overseas areas and Oman has been in force. Ukrainians need to have a coronavirus vaccination and a biometric passport to travel visa-free.
