Australian Foreign Minister Arrives in Kyiv to Discuss Further Support for Ukraine

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong arrived in the Ukrainian capital on the morning of December 18, as announced by Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko

“I had the pleasure of welcoming Foreign Minister Penny Wong to Kyiv this morning. Today will be filled with meetings and discussions,” Myroshnychenko stated on the social network X.

On the previous day, Wong mentioned her recent talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, where support for Ukraine was a central topic. “This is important for Australia because what happens in Europe and in our region is increasingly interconnected, and we must work together for peace and security,” the minister explained.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Australia has provided Ukraine with over $1.3 billion in military aid, as well as more than $1.5 billion in overall support, according to the Australian government.

In November, the Australian government announced that it would supply Ukraine with 14 boats designed to enhance the speed and maneuverability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at sea. This contribution underscores Australia’s ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and regional stability.
