Apiary registration in Ukraine: what beekeepers need to know

Where to register, which documents are required, and why it matters

Apiary registration is a simple but important step for anyone keeping bees. It legalizes the activity, enables veterinary control, and ensures beekeepers receive timely alerts about pesticide use in their area.

Registration is available for both businesses (companies, individual entrepreneurs, family farms) and private individuals who keep bee colonies.

An apiary is registered with the local self‑government body based on the beekeeper’s place of residence or the legal address of a company or entrepreneur.

The first step is obtaining a veterinary and sanitary apiary passport. It is issued by the territorial office of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection after inspection and assessment of bee health.

With the passport in hand, the owner or an authorized representative submits an application for apiary registration. A copy of the passport is attached. Registration is completed on the day of application.

The application includes the owner’s name, address, tax ID or passport number, legal entity name and registration code (if applicable), and contact details such as phone and email.

After registration, the local authority records the apiary in the registry, including location (address or cadastral number), number of colonies, bee breed or population (if available), and a unique apiary ID.

If the apiary stops operating, the owner must notify the local authority within 10 calendar days.

Registered apiaries receive official notifications about planned pesticide use. Such notices are sent within four working hours after authorities receive the information, giving beekeepers time to protect their bees.
