Blinken in Kyiv Announces Over $700 Million in Humanitarian and Energy Aid to Ukraine

During his visit to Kyiv on September 11, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the provision of more than $700 million in humanitarian and energy aid to Ukraine

This aid is part of ongoing efforts to support the country amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.

At a joint press conference with the foreign ministers of Ukraine and the United Kingdom, Blinken stressed that Russia continues to target Ukraine's energy infrastructure to "weaponize the cold against the Ukrainian people."

As part of the new aid package, Blinken revealed that $325 million will be allocated to restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure and power grids. He also mentioned that an upcoming meeting of the "Group of Seven Plus" will focus on further assistance to Ukraine's energy sector.

In addition to energy support, Blinken announced $290 million in humanitarian aid aimed at providing essential services, including safe drinking water, food, and medicine, to millions of displaced Ukrainians and people in the surrounding region. He also highlighted $102 million earmarked for humanitarian demining efforts to clear the landmines and unexploded ordnance left by Russia across Ukraine.

The joint visit of Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Kyiv underscores the commitment of the US and UK to support Ukraine. On the same day, the UK government announced an additional £242 million in aid for Ukraine, which includes financial assistance and military supplies.

This announcement highlights the international community's continued backing of Ukraine as it faces ongoing aggression from Russia.
