In New York, there was a celebration of the premiere day of the most famous Ukrainian composition in America. In 1922, Shchedryk, owned by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych, first sounded in the States. In 2022, it is one of the most popular Christmas songs known all over the world. In America, they love this song and even have a holiday. This year, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Shchedryk in America, a holiday was organized. All money received from ticket sales will be transferred to Ukraine as a charity.
"We are gathered to support Ukraine, its nation, and culture. I want to express my deep respect and gratitude to Ukrainians. No one holds up as courageously as they do against such indescribable brutality of terror," said the host and director Martin Scorsese.
The Oscar-winning director Scorsese also recalled that Ukraine is full of talent. He remembered Ukrainian director Oleksandr Dovzhenko and called his film Earth unsurpassed.
The holiday was crowned with unusual carolling — the host called for contributions for Ukraine and to buy hospital generators.
Earlier in Chicago celebrated, the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian carol.
Ukrainian music was also played in Poland on December 3. In Warsaw, the popular club Opera was lit with yellow-blue colours, and Ukrainian music was played. The organizer of parties DiskoPl is not the first time to create active events for Ukrainians and those who want to get acquainted with Ukrainian music.
Ukrainian culture is beautiful. And this is proven through the centuries.
