Borrell Urges EU to Invest in Ukraine

The high representative of the Union for foreign affairs and security policy called for the activation of private investments of Ukrainians and European countries

Joseph Borrell made a statement after meeting development ministers at the level of the European Council. He believes that it is not necessary to wait for the end of the war but to start financing the reconstruction and development of projects on the territory of Ukraine. He explained that the country needed to be prepared for further changes. Therefore, investments will help to implement reforms in Ukraine, which is already ready for the European path.

Borrell also noted that Ukraine is a new large-scale task for the countries of Europe. In his opinion, Russia is bringing a lot of destruction to the neighbouring country, so the reconstruction process will be significant. In order for Ukraine to become a European country, it is necessary to act now, attracting domestic private investment and deposits of foreign investors.

The high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy also gives the reason why European leaders are interested in actively helping Ukraine. The politician considers that the collapse of Ukraine will lead to the destruction of new countries. Therefore, EU countries must continue humanitarian and military support.

"We must use our funding to attract private investment – both from Ukraine and the EU," Borrell said.
