A few days ago, information appeared in the information space about a possible visit of Olaf Scholz, Emanuel Macron, and Mario Draghi in the coming weeks. However, the German government has not confirmed that the chancellor is planning such an event.
It should be noted that German journalists, analysts, and politicians have been criticizing the chancellor for several weeks. At first, the Bundestag and the media did not like Scholz’s hesitation to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons. After that, Scholz began to be reproached for some cowardice. The Bundestag noted that unlike many other Western heads of government, Olaf Scholz had not yet been to Kyiv. The visit to the capital of Ukraine during the war is considered a way to show the highest support to Ukrainians and president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
It should also be noted that Olaf Scholz has long found justification for his unwillingness to express a specific position regarding the war in Ukraine. In words, the chancellor supports Ukraine, but their actions say the opposite. So in May, Scholz refused to go to Kyiv until the capital of Ukraine received federal president Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Later, the chancellor, a German official who chooses political courses, began working trips and telephone conversations with leaders of various countries.
The Bundestag deputy Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann severely criticized the indecisiveness of Olaf Goltz.
"It’s good he’s on the road now," she said.
Other German politicians agree with her opinion. They insist on going to Kyiv and providing Ukraine with weapons. However, the chancellor’s Party wants to conduct diplomatic negotiations with Russia without interfering with weapons.
Germany’s most famous magazine Spigel notes that if Scholz comes to Ukraine, plans to join the EU will be discussed. At the same time, the German source emphasizes that in Ukraine other expectations. Ukrainians count on getting weapons after the visit of the German chancellor.
