The decision of the International Olympic Committee continues to arouse outrage worldwide. Recently, former Canadian Olympic participants expressed support for Ukraine. They called on the Canadian Olympic Committee to criticize the admission of athletes from the Russian Federation to the 2024 Olympics. Ukrainian athletes propose not to allow Russians to compete in Paris even under a neutral flag unless Putin stops the war and returns occupied territory.
Canadians also propose that athletes from Belarus be banned from the Olympics. Olympic athletes believe that the presence of Russia and Belarus at such large-scale competitions gives a bad signal — the world of sports is not concerned with the horrors happening in Ukraine because of the hands of Russian soldiers.
This appeal was signed by 42 athletes from Canada. Among them are Alex Bilodo (freestyle), Becky Scott (ski racing), Hayley Wickenheiser (hockey), Tessa Virtue (figure skating), and others.
The aggressor has no place in the civilized world, including the big sport. Even MMA fighters stand for it. So on March 12, after the victory of Georgian Dvalishvili over Russian athlete Petr Yan in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, important words were sounded. Dvalishvili called for an end to the war in Ukraine and the destruction of enemies.
"Glory to Ukraine," he added.
