In 2021, Albania adopted a hybrid visa-free regime for Russian citizens. From the beginning of May to the end of September, citizens of Russia could arrive in Albania without a visa and relax in the beautiful nature. Thus, the state developed its tourism sector.
On April 20, 2023, the Albanian embassy in Russia published information that from now on, visa-free holidays for citizens of the aggressor country are cancelled, and to cross the border of the state, Russians will have to apply for a visa in accordance with the purpose of the visit.
Since the beginning of a full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine, Macedonia has taken a similar measure, Montenegro and Kazakhstan have reduced the number of visa-free days. Ukraine has abolished the visa-free regime with Russia, and the Baltic states, Finland, the Czech Republic and Poland have banned the entry of Russian citizens altogether.
