Cargo Shipments on the Dnieper River Increased by 60% in Five Months of 2021

Cargo traffic on the Dnieper River increased by 2.2 million tons, to 4.49 million tons, in January-May 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, says Centre for transport strategies

According to the River information service of Ukraine, there were 5,111 voyages during January-May, compared to 2, 329 voyages in 2020 (+119.45%).

As reported, in January-May the main share of freight traffic was construction cargo — 2.88 million tons (+150.9% more than in 2020).

The volume of grain shipments amounted to 1.1 million tons and metal products — 515.5 thousand tons.

In addition, metal products are actively transported along the river. During the 4 months of 2021, the volume of metal transportation on the river increased by 68.3% and reached 340 thousand tons.

Earlier, CTS wrote that 1.81 million tons of cargo were transported on the Dnieper river in the first quarter of 2021, which is 66%, or 719.7 thousand tons more than during the same period in 2020.

Recall that in the 12 months of 2020 on the Dnieper was carried 11.25 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8% or 542.8 thousand tons less than the same period in 2019.

Also, high-speed boats Raketa will be launched along the Dnieper. The first route is planned to run "Kyiv - Kanev" with stops in other cities. This was announced by the chairman of the state Agency for tourism development Maryana Oleskiv, as Ukrinform reports.

According to her, such routes are created primarily for tourism purposes.

It is assumed that the way on Raketa from Kyiv to Kanev will be about two hours.
