Development of Combined Disease Test by Ukrainian Scientists

Ukraine developed tests that simultaneously determine COVID-19 and influenza and predict the course of the disease

Scientists of the Institute of molecular biology and genetics of the national academy of sciences of Ukraine reported on the new development. Scientists have developed five test systems at once. Each of them is aimed at a common goal — precisely defining the disease and its current. Combined "home laboratories" allow the organism to be tested simultaneously for:

  • SARS-CoV-2;
  • Grippe;
  • Rhizophytic viruses (influenza A and B, parainfluenza 1-3, respiratory syncytial viruses A and B, measles, rhinovirus, etc.).

The test was developed with a lot of hard work. Each test contains biomarkers. Biomarkers were derived from the expression of 20 genes of innate immunity and coagulation systems in healthy donors and people with COVID-19. Scientists have made unique sets of markers derived from biological data. In this way, the texts define a disease and can also predict the course of the disease.

"These biomarkers allow to diagnose hyper inflammation, hypercoagulation, and lymphopathy in peripheral blood cells of patients with COVID-19 with high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy," said the Ukraine Institute of molecular biology and genetics.

The tests have three subspecies. The main difference is in the types of detection. This allowed for the creation of tests for all strata of the population. Standard and fluorescent diagnostic strips will be more expensive. Chromagraphic tests will be cheaper. So in government hospitals with a massive influx of people, you can spread chromatographic stripes.
