Dmytro Kuleba and Alexander Schallenberg discussed strengthening relations between Ukraine and Austria

During his working visit to Slovakia on May 13, the Minister for foreign affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has met with the Federal Minister for European and international affairs of the Republic of Austria Alexander Schallenberg

The ministers discussed strengthening relations between Ukraine and Austria in the political, security, trade and investment spheres.

Dmytro Kuleba thanked Alexander Schallenberg for Austria's consistent position in support of our state's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The interlocutors paid special attention to the promotion of Ukraine's European integration and the wider access of our state to vaccines against COVID-19.

The heads of Ukrainian and Austrian diplomacy discussed steps to increase trade and attract investment. The diplomats noted that the revival of contacts between the business circles of Ukraine and Austria and the implementation of new investment projects will help the recovery of national economies against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ministers also discussed the implementation of the agreements reached at the April 27 meeting of the Ukrainian-Austrian joint Commission on trade and economic relations.

Austrian EU membership coincided with the onset of the Eastern enlargement process that brought eleven post-communist countries — many of them immediate neighbors of Austria - to the EU. This presented Austrian firms with new competition, but also enormous opportunities. They became one of the most active participants in the privatization and restructuring process in post-communist countries. Many medium-sized firms became regional multinationals when they took control of major firms in manufacturing, retail distribution, telecommunications, utilities and banks across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
