DTEK Invests UAH 1.2 Billion in Thermal Power Plant Restoration in Q1 2025

DTEK Energy has invested approximately UAH 1.2 billion in the restoration and repair of its thermal power plants during the first quarter of 2025, as the company continues efforts to recover from extensive damage caused by Russian attacks

Thermal Power Plants Suffer Ongoing Destruction

According to the company's press service, DTEK's thermal generation assets sustained severe damage during the full-scale invasion. By mid-2024, 90% of the company’s thermal generation facilities had been damaged or destroyed. Despite this, energy specialists managed to restore over half of the lost capacity ahead of the winter season.

“New massive attacks in November and December again caused serious damage, adding new challenges to power engineers and repairmen,” the company noted.

Long-Term Investment in Energy Security

In 2024, DTEK directed UAH 3.6 billion toward restoring its thermal generation capacity and UAH 7.5 billion to domestic coal mining development. These measures were crucial to ensuring the resilience of Ukraine’s power system during the heating season.

Since the start of the full-scale war, DTEK thermal power plants have been attacked 205 times, resulting in 56 injuries and the deaths of four power engineers.

Digital Transformation of Energy Infrastructure

In parallel with its restoration efforts, DTEK also secured EUR 11 million in grant funding from the French government for the construction of Ukraine’s first digital substation. The total cost of the project is EUR 15 million, which includes EUR 4 million in DTEK’s own investment. The digital substation will be developed using GE Vernova technology.
