The amount will be transferred through the European Peace Facility. The European Council approved €1 billion to support the armed forces of Ukraine – the treatment of defenders with ammunition to counter Russian aggression. The aid system allows EU countries to cover the ammo purchased for Ukraine. The approval of the final amount of assistance designed to outrage the cost of military aid and alter the production lines from 9 February to 31 May 2023 sets in motion a joint project to purchase ammunition. Recall that on March 20, 2023, the European Council signed an agreement to accelerate the delivery and joint procurement of artillery ammunition for the Ukrainian army.
"By today's decision, we are putting into effect the first part of the historic agreement reached by the EU leaders to support the immediate supply of €1 billion of artillery ammunition to the armed forces of Ukraine," Josep Borrel.
In addition, Borrell added that the EU is ready to continue supporting Ukraine and strengthen the possibility of Ukrainian self-defence against Kremlin soldiers.
