"The main stabilizing factor of this heating season will be nuclear generation. It is a question of the maximum involvement of power units of the NPP in production of the electric power. The load on nuclear generation will be a record for the last 5 years. This is an additional 7 billion kWh, which is 15% more than last year. Such an increase in electricity production will reduce the need for coal by 3.6 million tons," said German Galushchenko, minister of energy of Ukraine.
To maximize the involvement of NPP power units in the work, measures are being taken to optimize the NPP repair campaign. Ukraine is fully supplied with nuclear fuel.
Also, for the stable passage of the heating period, natural gas generation will be involved too. Power units of thermal power plants using natural gas as fuel will be used to balance the energy system during the heating season. The required capacity will be activated only for balancing the power system and as a separate ancillary service.
