“Energoatom” to Sue Russia for the Expropriation of ZNPP

The largest electricity producer in Ukraine demands Russia to compansate damages of the occupied station

Energoatom reports that the court proceedings regarding the losses that the Russian army caused to Ukraine by seizing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will be in reality. In March 2022, the Ukrainian company notified the Russian Federation of the start of an official dispute. In April, a Ukrainian electricity producer said that in case of refusal by the opponent of the peaceful resolution of the case, the request will be submitted to the international arbitration court.

The Ukrainian side reports that the Kremlin has inflicted great material damage on Energoatom. Recall that Russia seized the nuclear power plant more than a year ago. During this time, the invaders tortured and stole employees, gave them irregular working conditions with dangerous object, imported explosive weapons into the territory, and set fires, explosions, and shelling. Now Energoatom is claiming all damages.

Ukraine will be able to prepare for victory in the international arena with the support of the American company Shearman & Sterling LLP. The legal adviser already has experience in disputes with the Russian Federation.
