Energy Minister Explains Urgent Need for New Nuclear Projects in Ukraine

German Galushchenko emphasizes the importance of nuclear and alternative energy development for the nation’s future economy

Ukrainian Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko, has underscored the immediate necessity to implement new nuclear projects to meet the country's growing energy demands. Speaking during a televised broadcast, Galushchenko highlighted that expanding nuclear energy capacity is crucial for providing affordable and environmentally friendly energy, especially as Ukraine's economy recovers in the post-war period.

"The deployment of nuclear energy will ensure we meet the increasing demand for accessible and clean energy as we rebuild after victory," Galushchenko stated. He stressed that delaying nuclear energy projects is not the right approach. "Waiting to celebrate our victories before starting these projects, I believe, is not the correct path. After we win, we will require substantial generation capacity to renew and revive Ukraine," the minister added.

Galushchenko emphasized that it is essential to commence the key stages of development and installation of new nuclear generation immediately, rather than postponing until after the conflict concludes.

The Ministry of Energy noted that currently, nuclear power accounts for about 60% of electricity production in Ukraine. The expansion of nuclear and alternative energy sources is seen as vital for the country's economic growth and energy independence.
