This is not the first time that such an agreement has been concluded. The previous treaty was signed in 2015. The duration of each treaty is 5 years. So it’s time to renegotiate.
The Ministry of internal affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of infrastructure and transport of a friendly state, Italy, worked on optimizing the document. Since January 24, Ukrainians and Italians can change their driving license again under the simplified procedure. The Ukraine Ministry of internal affairs explained that every Ukrainian citizen who moves to live in Italy can now exchange his national driving permit for the same Italian one under a simplified procedure. In particular, there is no need to repeat theoretical and practical examinations. Citizens who:
- Legally resident in Italy or Ukraine;
- Have been a resident for at least four years;
- Have a valid driver’s license.
Since the previous agreement, more than 22.000 Ukrainians have applied to exchange driver’s licenses in Italy.
"This proves once again that the issue is very relevant for Ukrainians legally residing and working in Italy. The exchange procedure takes a certain amount of time because a special check is made to determine the validity of the documents. The Ukrainian license is withdrawn when a new Italian driving license is issued. Accordingly, Italians will surrender their national document on receipt of Ukrainian," said the Ukraine Ministry of internal affairs.
