The Netherlands-based company ESS4U has launched the Qurmit home battery, designed with lead-acid technology to ensure safety and reliability. This new battery stands out for its ability to operate in extreme temperatures, ranging from -40°C to 55°C, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It offers a significant lifespan of 20 years, far surpassing that of most lithium-ion batteries, and is 95% recyclable at the end of its service life.
While Qurmit may not be as energy-dense as its lithium-ion counterparts, it addresses critical issues such as fire safety, being 100% fireproof with no risk of combustion. The battery is capable of storing 17.6 kWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power basic household activities throughout the day.
With a charge capacity of 2.4 kW, Qurmit is compatible with all household devices and can be charged efficiently at a rate of 2 kW when paired with auxiliary solar batteries. Additionally, Qurmit is the world’s only home battery designed to support 95% recycling, with 50% of its materials sourced from recycled components.
However, the battery's substantial weight of 550 kg could pose installation challenges, especially in smaller spaces. For comparison, the Tesla Powerwall 3, a competitor in the same category, weighs just over 130 kg while offering similar energy storage capabilities. Despite this, Qurmit's robust features make it a noteworthy option for those seeking long-lasting and safe energy solutions.
