This announcement was made by the Deputy Head of the EU Representation in Ukraine, Remy Duflo, as reported by Ukrinform.
According to Duflo, the EU is providing support to Ukrainian media at both national and regional levels.
"The work of journalists is extremely important. Thanks to them, we know what the Russian Federation is doing in Ukraine now. In the EU, we understand that there is a very large public space and a variety of media, but the inability to receive income from advertising endangers the work of journalists. That is why Ukrainian mass media are now very dependent on donor aid to be able to continue their work. We will support those media that tell the truth. We have already allocated 50 million euros to support 150 different media at the national and regional level and, in particular, to the sector of journalist protection in Ukraine," said Duflo.
He emphasized that Ukraine has risen 18 positions in the Reporters Without Borders index and achieved good results of trust among the world's media. The European Union is pleased with the progress in the digitization process of the public broadcaster and the observance of journalistic standards.
"For the European Union, freedom of speech and the development of independent media are very important - they are the foundations of democracy. Disinformation is our common challenge. These media are resisting disinformation, and they need to be protected, because this is a very big achievement and a prerequisite when we are talking about the acquisition of Ukraine's membership in the EU," said the deputy head of the EU representation in Ukraine.
