On August 21, Josep Borrell commented on the activity of the Fighters coalition and the participation of the European Union in this process. The head of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy called the transfer of the F-16 to Ukraine not an achievement of pan-European diplomacy but "a bilateral decision of several countries that formed a group to coordinate their actions." At the same time, if the EU/FC member states ask the EU to finance part of the project, the EU will "definitely" do so.
Borrell recalled that Ukraine will not receive fighters as soon as it would be desirable since first Ukrainian pilots need to be trained. This is a long process, but it has already been launched and irrevocably.
