Highlighting the severe impact of Russia's deliberate assaults on Ukraine's critical infrastructure and civilian facilities, the Commission emphasized the increasing humanitarian needs amidst the ongoing conflict. An estimated 14.6 million individuals in Ukraine require humanitarian assistance, facing challenges such as lack of shelter, access to clean water, education, and healthcare due to the war.
This funding is earmarked for humanitarian projects within Ukraine, addressing the immediate needs of those impacted by the conflict. Additionally, the European Commission has committed €8 million in aid to Moldova to support refugees from Ukraine.
With the latest funding, the European Commission's total humanitarian aid for civilians affected by the war in Ukraine since February 2022 has reached €926 million, including €860 million designated for in-country humanitarian programs and €66 million to assist refugees in Moldova.
