European Military Training Mission for Ukraine

The EU plans to train more than 30.000 Ukrainian soldiers in 2 years and then increase the number of students and the amount of military support to Ukraine

According to Welt am Sonntag, with reference to Brussels, the countries have agreed to create a military training program for Ukrainian soldiers with an initial period of 2 years. By the winter of 2023, more than 15.000 Ukrainians will be trained, after which the number of participants and military assistance to Ukraine will be increased.

|The EU wants to support Ukraine even more in the war against Russia in the future… After a bitter debate, the member countries agreed to start training Ukrainian military personnel in the European Union soon. The mission's mandate is initially designed for 2 years, the decision will be officially approved by the EU foreign ministers at a meeting in Luxembourg in mid-October," Welt am Sonntag.

Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be trained in cybersecurity and protection against weapons of mass destruction, medical training, air defence and work with artillery weapons. It is possible that separate units will be created to train demining and tactical training of soldiers. The training headquarters will be located in Germany and Poland.

It is reported that the European Peace Fund (the current reserve is €5.7 billion), which finances training and, in part, the supply of weapons, will be increased. Preliminarily, until 2027, the EFF reserve will be increased to €10-12 billion, but the final decision is not yet ready.

Today, 10.000 Ukrainian soldiers have already been trained in the UK. Their instructors are professionals from the UK, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany. In total, the program is designed for 30.000 military personnel.
