European partners ready to supply up to 2,300 MW of electricity to Ukraine if needed

EU countries confirmed they can cover part of Ukraine’s electricity deficit in case of new Russian attacks on the energy system, providing emergency imports of up to 2,300 MW

Ukraine’s energy system continues to work under permanent military pressure, so Kyiv is building an external safety cushion together with European partners. According to the Ukrainian side, EU countries have confirmed their technical readiness to provide Ukraine with up to 2,300 MW of electricity in case of need. This is exactly the kind of volume that can help pass peak consumption hours or quickly restore balance after strikes on generation or transmission.

Such support became possible because Ukraine is synchronized with the European power grid and can receive electricity from several directions at once. In practice, this means that when Russian attacks temporarily knock out part of Ukrainian generation, the system operator can request additional electricity from European neighbors — and they will upload it to the network to stabilize frequency and voltage.

The Ukrainian government stresses that the priority remains the protection and repair of its own power facilities, but external imports are an important insurance tool for the winter period and for large reconstruction projects. The agreed 2,300 MW is, in fact, a ceiling that shows the trust of European partners and their willingness to help Ukraine keep households, business and critical infrastructure powered.

European assistance in the energy sector is also part of a broader political line: the EU wants Ukraine to get through the heating season without blackouts, continue industrial work and maintain basic services for the population despite the war. For Ukrainian businesses and communities this is a signal that even in case of new waves of strikes, the country will have access to emergency electricity from Europe and will be able to recover faster.
