European Union Prepares Platform for Ukraine’s Recovery

On June 4 president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced the emergence of an EU platform to rebuild Ukraine after the war

On 4 June, a 2-day international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine began. The meeting of influential personalities from all over the world in Swiss Lugano has already had results. Ukraine and Switzerland signed an important treaty. Also, Ursula von der Leyen announced the creation of a new European platform, which will begin its work after the end of the war in Ukraine.

"We have already proposed to the government of Ukraine the creation of a platform to define the direction of reconstruction, which would bring together all partners. It will be led by Ukraine," said the president of the European Commission during the conference.

The new platform is expected to help identify and implement strategic directions and priorities for the country’s recovery. The platform will implement the interests of Ukrainians. The spheres of influence of the European countries on the reconstruction of facilities and industries destroyed by the Russian army will be announced later. The European Union is expected to start its work after two stages of discussion. First, Ursula von der Leyen will meet with world experts and thinkers on reconstruction issues. Later, tentatively by the end of the year, the president of the European Commission will meet with international politicians to discuss major changes in war-torn Ukraine.

It should be noted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also invited to the conference. He spoke about his vision of a restored Ukraine — safe, technologically sound, and environmentally friendly.
