On February 18, 2014, Ukrainians took to the Maidan to protest against the pro-Russian Yanukovych

Thus began the war of Ukrainians for the European future. For the first time in independent Ukraine, Ukrainians were shot for wrapping themselves in the European flag and sticking the Ukrainian flag into the tire barricades.

Then 23 people died, and 509 were injured.
