On February 3, Reuters, citing the German daily newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, reported that Berlin had agreed to send 88 units of Leopards 1 to Ukraine. The delivery would be made from the stocks of the Bundeswehr. Rheinmetall and Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft intend to repair dozens of Leopards and transfer them to Ukraine, and if Ukraine agrees to buy them, the tanks will be sent immediately.
Also, the German MoD is negotiating with Qatar regarding the buyback of their 15 units of Gepard. Doha bought tanks to protect the stadium during the World Cup, and now these tanks can serve as the defence of Ukraine.
"The Gepards have proven themselves very well in the war in Ukraine. If we could get more from partners here, that would definitely help the Ukrainians," Boris Pistorius.
