Germany Announces Comprehensive New Military Aid Package for Ukraine

Germany has unveiled a substantial new package of military aid for Ukraine, as detailed on the Federal Government of Germany’s website and reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces

The announcement made on March 28 highlights Germany's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities amidst the conflict.

Key Components of the New Aid Package:

  • Artillery Ammunition: Includes 18,000 rounds of 155 mm caliber and 24,000 rounds of 40 mm caliber ammunition.
  • Armored and Engineering Vehicles:
    • Five Warthog repair and evacuation crawler vehicles
    • Nine Warthog command tracked vehicles
    • Six WISENT 1 armored vehicle-launched mine-clearing line charges
    • Two BIBER armored bridge-layers
    • One BREM Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle
    • One DACHS engineering vehicle (IMR)
  • Grenade Launchers and UAVs:
    • 70 GMG grenade launchers
    • Ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks
    • 14 Vector reconnaissance UAVs
    • 30 RQ-35 Heidrun reconnaissance UAVs
  • Electronic and Surveillance Equipment:
    • Five radio-electronic jamming generators for UAV countermeasures
    • 180 RF 360 field kits for UAV detection
    • SATCOM surveillance system
  • Other Supplies:
    • Nine minesweepers
    • Three border patrol cars
    • Six Zetros tankers
    • More than 300 infrared cameras
    • 2,000 RGW 90 Matador hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers
    • Thousands of camouflage nets and ponchos
    • Emergency power generators

Germany's total military aid to Ukraine is reported to be around €28 billion, with an additional €7.1 billion budgeted for 2024. This latest package, part of a €500 million commitment announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius after the Ramstein meeting on March 19, underscores Germany's robust support for Ukraine. This includes the provision of 100 armored infantry vehicles and other essential equipment, reinforcing Ukraine's military efforts and resilience.
