Germany Helps Strengthen Ukrainian Energy Flexibility

Development and restoration of the sustainability of the Ukrainian energy system discussed in Berlin

Minister of energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko and vice-chancellor, federal minister of economy and climate protection of Germany Robert Habeck discussed the state of the Ukrainian energy and gas system. Within the framework of bilateral cooperation was stated on necessarily of continuation of measures that will strengthen the Ukrainian energy system, primarily to overcome the consequences of Russian attacks. Ukraine and Germany agreed on the creation of reserves: to increase the capacity of interstate crossings between Ukraine and the EU states to increase electricity traffic to 2-2.5 GW.

"The relevant reserves can be used to balance the energy system in the event of a significant impact of enemy attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure," the Ukrainian minister said.

Germany is also ready to participate with him in the restoration of power plants that were destroyed or damaged by Russia during the full-scale war. Ministers also discussed the topic of increasing gas production. Countries ready for cooperation in the gas sector. Herman Halushchenko also stressed the high interest of European traders in Ukrainian underground gas storages, where already stores over 2.4 billion m³ of foreign gas.
