Germany Introduces Grant Program Supporting Ukrainian Businesses with Up to €1 Million

The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) has launched a new grant program aimed at supporting Ukrainian businesses in implementing eco-modernization projects

Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) on behalf of Germany's Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection, the program offers grants of up to €1 million.

The initiative welcomes applications from enterprises actively seeking to modernize their production processes environmentally. It also extends to projects that commenced prior to the announcement but were halted due to financial constraints, provided these projects have not received completion funds from other sources.

To qualify, projects must involve installations covered by and compliant with the European Directive 2010/75/EC (Annex I). Eligible enterprises must be located within Ukraine, excluding territories currently under occupation or active conflict. Additionally, applicant businesses must not have ties with the aggressor country or entities on EU, US, or Ukrainian sanction lists.

This grant program is designed to foster the eco-friendly modernization of Ukrainian industries, aligning them with European standards even amidst the ongoing reform and martial law in Ukraine. The successful execution of these pilot projects could also demonstrate to other international donors and financial institutions the Ukrainian business sector's commitment to adopting European operational standards.
