On July 17, 2014, the Donetsk region was shot down by Boeing-777. The tragedy occurred in the wake of the missile's impact on the ground air. There were 298 passengers on board and 15 crew members — all dead. During the investigation, it was said that the missile was fired from the anti-aircraft missile system Buk. The installation is used by Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. During the disaster, the place of the Boeing fall was already occupied, there were no battles. However, Russia hurried to make an indictment. The Russian Federation, which did not assume responsibility for forming the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republic in Ukraine, claimed that the aircraft was shot down by Ukrainians.
But an international court has been able to uncover the truth in eight years. Just like Russia for 8 years has revealed its true plans and attitude toward the formation of unrecognized republics on Ukrainian territory.
The passengers were predominantly from the Netherlands, so the international court was held in Amsterdam. All investigations were conducted by the court of justice of the Netherlands and an international joint investigation team. The trial commenced on 9 March 2020 at the district of the International Criminal Court.
On 10 June 2022, the final meeting was completed. The accused were 4 people: a Russian former FSB officer Ihor Hirkin (pseudo-Strelkov), and 3 of his former subordinates – 2 citizens of Russia and a citizen of Ukraine.
The Netherlands prosecutor's office requested that the defendants be sentenced to life imprisonment. The final decision will be taken before the end of the year — 17 October or 15 December.
But both Russia and the defendants continue to deny their involvement in the terrorist action. Even after an international court had examined all the evidence and terminated the proceedings.
"This is the last day of the trial of MH17. Sentencing will be announced before the end of 2022," wrote on Twitter a joint international criminal investigation team.
