On April 27, Lockheed Martin received a government order worth $4.8 billion for the production of guided multiple-launch rocket systems for HIMARS. The USA sent many of these missiles, complete with HIMARS, to Ukraine earlier. Thanks to the authority of Congress, Lockheed Martin is able to increase the number of produced GMLRS from 6.000 to 14.000 units. The start of production is planned for 2024, the end of the contract — 2026.
"Working closely with our Army customer and supply chain partners, who are moving with unprecedented speed, to ramp production capacity supporting the urgent need for this highly-reliable, combat-proven rocket," vice president of Lockheed's Missiles and Fire Control Jay Price.
Multi-year contracts are usually concluded for high-value orders, as this way, they are protected from inflation and force majeure.
