International Court of Justice Has Begun Consideration of Crimes

On 7 March, the trial of Russia’s war crimes against the Ukrainians began

On February 26, 2022, Ukraine filed a lawsuit in the International court of justice against Russia for violation of the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide. Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the prosecutors who flew to the first meeting today. It should be noted that Russian representatives did not appear before the international court.

On 7 March, the Ukrainians demanded two questions:

  • The Russian Federation must end the military actions and occupation of the territories that began on 24 February 2022;
  • The Russian Federation must immediately recall all military units conducting military operations on the territory of Ukraine.

"The Russian Federation manipulates international law and, in particular, the Convention, which is a fundamental international treaty in the field of the protection of human rights and has used it for armed aggression against Ukraine," stated the ministry of foreign affairs of Ukraine.
