Instead of the weapons that Ukraine needs, or at least lifting the blocking of the transfer of its weapons by other countries (for example, Spike anti-tank missiles from Germany), Israel decided to transfer helmets to Ukraine. Benny Gantz, Israeli defence minister, approved the donation of a consignment of protective equipment and some other equipment for the rescue services.
"As part of this shipment, 1.500 protective helmets and the same number of bulletproof vests, hundreds of spacesuits for demining, a thousand gas masks, and dozens of systems for filtering the air from poisonous gases will be sent to Ukraine," the press service of the Israeli Ministry of defence.
At the same time, it is emphasized that the helmets and body armour Israel sends to Ukraine are not strong enough and are not designed for use during hostilities. A batch of equipment with thousands of helmets and bulletproof vests that are unnecessary to neither Israel nor Ukraine are planned to be sent within a few weeks.
Tamir Pardo, the former head of the Mossad, said that Israel's attempt to sit on 2 chairs would lead to extremely negative consequences, primarily for Israel itself.
