Italian Sculptor Gifted a 5.5-Meter Statue to Ukraine

Emanuele Giannelli created "Myster Arbitrium" as a symbol of the Ukrainian struggle. The giant installed near the Lviv opera and will travel all over Ukrainian cities

On June 28, in Lviv appeared a male figure 5.5 m high. The man seems to hold and at the same time push one of the most famous buildings in Lviv – the opera house. The sculpture is called Myster Arbitrium. It symbolises support for Ukraine during Russia’s full-scale invasion of a neighbouring state.

The sculpture was donated by Italy. It is noted that it was created by the sculptor Emanuele Giannelli on the project of the Italian artist Rosie Fontana. The artists presented the sculpture at the end of June, to be installed by June 28 – the day of the Constitution of Ukraine. Thus, the Italian allies expressed support for Ukraine and added symbolism to the statue.

"I am very glad that Mr Arbitrium was installed next to the Lviv Opera. I am pleased to know that this sculpture will support Ukrainian art, history and culture. In addition, I want my project to become a real support for all artists, musicians, actors and artists of Ukraine. I think about those Ukrainian artists who died, suffered, or cannot work on their cultural 8, giving the beauty of thought to their state and the whole world. I express my hope for the speedy accession of Ukraine to the European Community and I want it to be heard not from an artist from Italy, but from Europe," said Emanuele Giannelli.

Rosie Fontana noted that she wanted to support Ukraine, so the symbol of resilience came to mind – Mr Arbitroom. Now he holds a place where the magnificent Ukrainian culture lives, reminds of the resistance of Ukrainians and the support of foreign allies. The authors note that the monument should become a messenger of peace for Ukraine.

Later, the giant will travel to another Ukrainian cities and the world to tell the Ukrainian story.
