Today is a day of mourning and commemoration of those who were brutally killed on the basis of blood and culture. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, ambassadors Melinda Simmons and Bridget Brink, rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman and diplomats from European countries paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. The ceremony venue is the Babi Yar National historical memorial in Kyiv. In 1941, approximately 33.771 Jews were shot in Babi Yar, and more than 100.000 were shot during World War II. Today, a large stone Menorah stands on this site.
"Today, as always, Ukraine honours the memory of millions of victims of the Holocaust. We know and remember that indifference kills along with hatred. Indifference and hatred are always the only two capable of creating evil," Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Today we repeat what is more important than before: never again — hatred; never again — indifference. The more nations of the world overcome indifference, the less space there will be for hatred in the world," the president concluded.
We remind you that in March 2022, Russia shot down the Memorial in Babi Yar.
