Kosovo Delivers Military Aid to Ukraine Including Armored Vehicles and Trucks

Kosovo has fulfilled its commitment to support Ukraine by transferring two packages of military aid that were previously announced in March 2024

This contribution includes armored vehicles and army trucks, confirmed by Kosovo's Minister of Defense, Eyup Macedonsi.

The announcement follows discussions at the 20th meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine, held under the "Ramstein" format, where Kosovo pledged to provide military aid to Ukraine. The specifics of the vehicles and equipment transferred were not detailed by Minister Macedonsi, leaving room for speculation about the exact types and models provided.

It is presumed that Kosovo's aid to Ukraine included American HMMWV (Humvee) off-road vehicles, Mercedes-Benz NG1017A trucks, and Land Rover Defender military off-road vehicles. The mortar shells likely encompass a range of calibers including 60mm, 81mm, 82mm, and 120mm, which align with the Kosovo Army’s arsenal.

The exact quantity of military equipment transferred by Kosovo was not disclosed. Given the limited size of Kosovo's Security Force and the ongoing regional tensions with Serbia, the contribution is significant albeit likely modest. These military assets are expected to bolster Ukraine's capabilities in its ongoing conflict against Russian forces.

In addition, Kosovo might receive partial financial compensation from Western countries for its support, which could aid in further rearming its military forces. The transferred HMMWVs are notable for their adaptability; Ukrainian forces have previously enhanced these vehicles with the "Amulet" combat module, which includes Ukrainian-made guided anti-tank missile launchers, an optical-electronic warhead, and a laser guidance module, facilitating advanced defensive operations.
