Latvia has officially approved a new aid package totaling €9.6 million for Ukraine in 2024, with a focus on both reconstruction efforts and military support

The Latvian government's decision, announced on April 2, 2024, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to bolster Ukraine's recovery and defense capabilities amid ongoing challenges.

Allocation of Funds:

  • Reconstruction Support: Latvia has allocated €5.3 million towards the reconstruction of Ukraine, emphasizing the rehabilitation of social infrastructure, providing psychological support to women, and enhancing digitization sectors. Latvia plans to continue its focused support in the Chernihiv region, sharing expertise in EU matters, spatial planning, and more with Ukrainian professionals.

  • Military Support: An additional €4.3 million will be contributed to the European Peace Fund to aid the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This contribution underscores Latvia's commitment to bolstering Ukraine's defense mechanisms in the face of aggression.

Olena Kondratyuk, the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, acknowledged Latvia's comprehensive support package, which reflects the country's solidarity with Ukraine. This assistance package is part of Latvia's ongoing efforts to support Ukraine's sovereignty and recovery, showcasing the strong bilateral relations between the two nations and Latvia's role in the international coalition aiding Ukraine.
