Main From the Briefing of Ursula von der Leyen and Zelenskyy

Strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities and details of the 11th package of sanctions

On May 9, on Europe Day, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived in Kyiv. During a joint press conference with the head of the European Union, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the European Union for the help that Ukraine receives in resisting Russian aggression and the recently adopted decision to allocate €1 for the purchase of 155 mm ammunition for Ukraine. These ammunitions are most in demand at the front. Accordingly, the speed of their delivery to the front is critical.

"Every day, Ukraine demonstrates the effectiveness of our defence against Russian aggression. Every downed terrorist missile, every success of our soldiers in repelling Russian assaults is proof that we can defeat this aggressor," Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In turn, Ursula von der Leyen listed 3 main points for the introduction of the following package of sanctions against Russia. In order to weaken Russia's ability to continue the war, the list of sanctioned Russian goods will be expanded with new items. Next is the fight against the involvement of grey schemes to avoid sanctions.

"That's why we proposed a new tool to combat sanctions evasion: if we see that goods from the EU are going to third countries and then appear in Russia, we can propose to member countries to impose sanctions on the export of these goods," Ursula von der Leyen.

And the 3rd: the search and ban of criminal structures of third countries, which deliberately ignore sanctions and continue cooperation with Russia.
