Medicine and Surgery in Ukraine

In Kyiv, a bone marrow transplant was performed on a boy who is not yet 2 months old

Barely 2 months old Maxim suffered from a rare congenital immunodeficiency. This became known after the postpartum screening. With this diagnosis, patients do not even live to 300 days, and die from infections. Fortunately, Maxim has an older brother, Zhenya, who is 4 years old. Thanks to the consent of Zhenya, his parents and the experience of the Kyiv Okhmatdet clinic, surgeons performed a bone marrow transplant from Zhenya to Maxim, and both boys will now live a long and happy life.

Okhmatdet reports that this is the most petite person in Ukraine who underwent this operation.

Earlier in Okhmatdet, kidneys and hearts were transplanted to 2 minor patients from a posthumous donor a 4-year-old boy.
