The decision was taken after a dialogue between the defence ministers of the two states. According to US secretary of defence Lloyd Austin, president Joe Biden approved the allocation of additional weapons to Ukraine for a designated amount.

According to Lloyd Austin, during a dialogue with the minister of defence of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, the parties discussed the continuation of military support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
