NATO summit will underline Ukraine’s “irreversible path” to membership, says Rutte

The Alliance’s declaration—due at the 24-25 June Hague summit—will unveil fresh language on long-term military and financial backing for Kyiv, but text remains under wraps

  • Bridge to full membership. Secretary-General Mark Rutte told President Volodymyr Zelensky that decisions taken in The Hague will build on last year’s Washington summit, which first branded Ukraine’s route to NATO “irreversible.”

  • Money on the table. European and Canadian allies have already pledged €35 billion+ in new support for 2025—likely surpassing last year’s total, Rutte said.

  • Declaration still sealed. While specifics stay confidential, Rutte confirmed the final communiqué will feature “important formulations” on Ukraine and future funding.

The summit will also convene a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, underscoring the Alliance’s growing institutional link with Kyiv.
