Not only war. Ukraine is growing and blooming. While cities are being destroyed in one part of Ukraine, culture is developing in another part of Ukraine. On October 6-6, the closed literary BookForum will be held in the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. The phenomenal cast of the forum will delight any intelligent person. However, unfortunately, only 100 listeners are invited to the forum, the rest will be able to watch the online broadcast.
Who will be? Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood. Philip Sands, Jonathan Littel, Stanislav Aseev will participate in a discussion on war crimes and people's memory. Peter Pomerantsev and Nobel Laureate in Literature (2021) Abdulrazak Gurna will discuss imperialism and identity.
"With the help of Hay Festival, the Lviv BookForum program can reach millions of people worldwide. And that goes for everyone, no matter where you are. Join, listen and learn," Neil Gaiman.
An exciting guest, Henry Marsh — a British neurosurgeon and author of the bestseller Do no harm, who previously visited Ukraine during an international exchange of professional experience.
In total, more than 40 authors and scientists from Ukraine, the USA, Great Britain, Syria, and Portugal will participate in the event.
Separately, I would like to mention Noah Yuval. It requires no introduction. The mediaeval historian is an active supporter of Ukraine and recently thundered with his TED lecture War in Ukraine could change everything."
"I am very closely watching what is happening in Ukraine. And I believe that this is not just a regional or local war. Ukraine is now at the forefront of the fight for freedom worldwide. And what happens in Ukraine will greatly impact the whole world. Here is one way to look at it. The global order built over generations, creating the most peaceful and prosperous era in human history, is now in danger," Noah Yuval.
"But the type of conflict we saw before 1945 is very different. And now everything is in jeopardy because Putin has violated the greatest taboo of the international order of the global system. He is really trying to destroy a single country, to destroy an entire nation. Dictators and various regimes around the world are closely watching what is happening. So if he succeeds, then we will see more Putins appearing in different parts of the world. The era of peace will end, as will the era of prosperity," Noah Yuval.
"Putin's fiasco, which we hope for, is not only in the interests of Ukraine or its immediate neighbours and Russia's neighbours. It is in the interests of every person on Earth," Noah Yuval.
