New Batch of F-16s and Expanded Pilot Training to Bolster Ukraine’s Air Defense

US Army General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, announced on April 3 during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that preparations are underway for a fresh delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, along with an expansion of pilot training programs

General Cavoli revealed that, in addition to the F-16s already deployed, further aircraft are being readied for transfer. He also highlighted that Ukrainian forces are actively employing these jets to intercept Russian missiles and execute offensive operations, thereby safeguarding Ukraine’s airspace.

Notably, General Cavoli clarified that none of the F-16s delivered so far originated directly from the United States. “Most of the aircraft have been provided by Northern European countries, including the Netherlands and Denmark,” he explained.

In related developments, it was noted that Belgium has postponed its delivery of F-16s to Ukraine until 2026 due to delays with the F-35 program. Nonetheless, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever reaffirmed Belgium’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.
