Poland and Baltic States Ask NATO to Oppose Russia

Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia ask to increase military forces due to threats from the Russian Federation

The Washington Post published an article about some countries' appeal to the North Atlantic Alliance. The publication received this information from an official document. The document notes that Russia can move from threats to actions, therefore it is impossible to exclude direct aggression against NATO member states and bordering countries with Russia. It is believed that an aggressor country can quickly approach NATO’s borders and strike.

Thus, each country wants to receive from NATO forces 20.000 armed soldiers and to install air defense on the borders with Russia.

It is not known whether the request will be approved. The leaders will consider the request of Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania only at the end of June at the planned summit.

However, according to The Washington Post, French and Italian politicians are skeptical about such a statement. They believe that Russia cannot and will not threaten NATO for the time being. The main reason for the lack of danger is the inability of Russia to act on several flanks. If the Russian Federation develops a large-scale confrontation, it may collapse even earlier due to the weakening of defense capability and costly warfare.

Recall that Russia threatens the Baltic countries because they support Ukraine.
