Prime Minister of Denmark Speaks in the Parliament of Ukraine

"You belong to Europe, and Europe belongs to you," Matte Frederiksen

On June 21, Danish prime minister Matte Frederiksen arrived in Kyiv to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As part of the diplomatic visit, the prime minister spoke from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and conveyed a message from Denmark to the Ukrainians: "I am sure that you will win this war, and after the war, there will be a new, strong Ukraine. Democracy will win, peace will be restored, and you will be free."

The Kingdom of Denmark has been supporting our state since the 1st days of the war. In addition to weapons and humanitarian aid, Denmark unequivocally broadcasts support for Ukraine in its European aspirations. And today, Matte Frederiksen confirmed that Denmark will support Ukraine in the process of obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership.

"Denmark supports granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate. We support every step you take. There is no doubt that Ukraine is a member of the European family."

Frederiksen also stressed that their opposition to Russian aggression and sanctions pressure on the economy of this country will continue and intensify.

"And we're not done yet. Denmark is ready to impose sanctions further and apply pressure against the Russian invasion and Putin."

The Danish PM also stated that her state is ready to take part in the post-war reconstruction and demining of Ukraine and, in particular, the city of Mykolaiv, which is now under Russian occupation.
